Is there an upgrade path from 1.8.1 to 2.1 directly or do I need to upgrade from 1.8.1 to 2.0 and then again to 2.1?

Is there an upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1 or does 2.1 need to be a fresh installation?

Also, are there instructions for migrating the catalog and settings into a fresh install of 2.1?

I received the newsletter today. Following the Order Update Service link, I see updates from all versions up to 1.91, but not 2.0. Around Feb 20, I installed what I requested a fresh version to install. I used a new database for the install and then changed the configuration files to point to the existing 2.0 database. Several issues required urgent messages to support, who told me that I needed to change the files back to 2.0 until the conversion program was released. So...what is the 2.0 -> 2.1 upgrade path??

You will be able to upgrade directly from 1.8.1.

am I reading this correctly? I can't upgrade my full (owned) Avactis 2.0 - 2.1 until the update utility is published?

I can (and have) requested 2.1 via the support link - Is this for a complete fresh install? (not an upgrade from 2.0 - it does say don't install over your existing store)

Mind you, I don't mind starting from scratch again (using the first as a practise run LOL) as I still have a lot of work to do on it. Thinking the 2.1 might make life easier in the long run by doing a fresh install.

However, reading over some other posts... and the amount of time I put in setting up postage, modifying email notifications etc. updating might be the go?

The 2.1 that you downloaded is for a clean install. There are enough differences in the database that you can't simply install the new files and connect to the 2.0 database. The upgrade utility, not only updates the appropriate files, it updates the database so that your existing settings, products, etc., remain.

In your situation, it might make sense to install 2.1 in a separate directory and new database, keeping the original 2.0. You could "play" with 2.1 to see if it makes more sense to start over or wait for the update utility. By keeping both, you keep your options open and you can toggle back and forth, should you decide to start over, making it easier to "remember" what you did.

Is it still OK to use this update utility to update to 2.1.0, or are the update files wrong as well?

for the record, I ended updoing what DonH suggestion (sort of). Loaded the new version from scratch and using the old version to check settings etc.

I haven't been able to find any new manuals for the new version (above 2.0) or anything (I use those rather than the readme file).
